Leaving On A Jet Plane
by marinashifrin
The last thing my Mom said to me before I got off the phone was, “Well, that’s really stupid Marina.” And it was really stupid.
Friday 9pm: I arrived at JFK ready for adventure, love, skinniness and all the other delusions I highlight in the next post. I just hit one hitch: I haven’t heard from Ben in over 24 hours and I have NO CLUE where I am going.
So, here I am, sitting on this plane to Chile with no plan B, C or LMNOP. But I had to do it.
I’m missing New York already, using my high school-level spanish to explain to the flight attendant that I do not, in fact, know the ‘address of my place of residence during my stay’. She does not understand how I can’t know where I am going, and quite frankly neither do I.
I am beginning to question what it was that I was trying to prove in the first place.
